Cyber Elf DX Ashni's no nonsense reply echoed in Winter's mind. It was an honest reply. She never cared for the more vulgar term some hothead scientist with his head in the clouds had given them.
Reusable, and compatible across all reploid kind. Kind of makes your heart flutter doesn't it, Honey? Ashni finished. She liked Winter, the intelligence, the vast freedom of movement. Though perhaps 'envied' was more par for the course. If only Maya had been more like her.

Within Winter's mind, Ashni would feel a hesitancy until she spoke about what she was, a feeling of relief within coming about. In fact, not just relief, but an opening up, faintly, considering Winter has no idea Ashni has the amount of access she does. Little bits and pieces of mental processes would float through Ashni's mind as well, as Winter's mentality seemed to be all over the place about now, read like an open book.
"Ohmygodshe'sacyberelftheyresocute!" "Aww, she's so sweet." "Who is this fairy and why is she in my head?" "Target approached from the southwest positive pi divided by three from eye level velocity estimated to be at 237 mph" "Is she a lesbian?" "Aww, I have a buddy!" "elec elem hi-grade buster-class firearm, seems to carry similar characteristics to my own" "This is kind of creepy..." "I wonder what Ciel would say..." "Would they allow her?" "I hope she's not a spy." "I wonder what she can do." "I wonder if she's like Croire." "Makes my heart flutter? I don't even like using elves! That's inhumane..." "Does this mean I'm schizo?" "Where did she come from?" "DX? Deluxe?" "Reusable and compatible with anyone? Hahahaha" "I hope she's alright." "I'm not going to kill her, am I?"
"Are you okay?" Winter asked aloud, sorting her mind out enough to toss a query to the fairy in her head.

As well as can be expected, Honey. I have some misgivings about what just transpired, but seeking vengeance for it is beyond my capacity.
She paused briefly, waiting for a proper moment to again speak. Yes I'm cute. No, I'm not always this sweet, but you're just so darling I can't help myself. My designation is Ashni, it means 'lightning'. I'm in your head because it was convenient. Yes, you do have a buddy, for roughly the next twenty-four to forty-eight hours to be exact. No, I'm not.
A lesbian, I'm not a lesbian She clarified. Not even possible for our kind to be such a thing. I do prefer females though. They're a lot easier on the eyes. She qualified her statement in such a way, that it seemed to invalidate her earlier point.
It's only creepy if having someone root around your mind is distressing to your immediate sensitivities. You'll get over it, everyone else seems to. Yes, I noticed that similarity too. The configuration of your offensive systems is quite compatible, and also very formidable. I don't know who Ciel is, but you're more than welcome to lock me up for a couple days till all your worries will disappear. I can enhance your offensive systems, primarily. Secondary benefits are limited by compatibility, and you're only a 'B'. While I do not know Croire personally, I rather doubt it. We were unique, the six of us.
That's sweet of you, but really, Cyber Elves were made for that singular purpose. You let their sacrifice hold you back; you might just live to regret it. No, delusions of grandeur and perceived mental deficiencies are merely side effects of the process. They are temporary and will pass. If you have any remaining problems after the bond has been severed, I would advise you seek qualified assistance on your own behalf, Honey. I came from a lab, several miles below here. It's a dull place now though; just about everything of immediately dispensable value has been taken. Yes, that would be the expected nomenclature of such a term, though I do not recall it was ever specified as anything but D-X.
Yes, and yes. Well, mostly. Testing was far more extensive on humanoid reploids than any other kind, but that is the expected result, yes. I'm alright, though it's awfully strange you feel the need to ask me of my wellbeing on such a frequent basis. No, you're not going to kill me. That will come of its own means, far removed from any of your actions outside of direct intervention against me on your behalf. Ashni rattled off in equally quick rapid-fire succession, as the questions themselves had been asked.
What? She then sent, as if telepathically, to Winter's mind; sensing some sort of recent fluctuation in her.
It had never even crossed her mind that Winter was unaware of the finer points of a 'B' level combination. Every single person she had ever been with, had been thoroughly briefed beforehand. In turn, she had just come to accept a mutual understanding of the process as both normal and expected.

...and as the responses start flooding back to her mental processes, Winter nearly stalls in her flight, letting out a startled yelp and then an awkward laughing fit as she levels back out, continuing her flight cross-continent to a relay point where she can pick up a low-cost teleport. Whoa, so you read THAT deep...? I had no idea you could embed that well into my system... she promptly thought, her flurry of thoughts gently quieting into an inaudible mumble and then silence as she begins to relax herself, a gentle tint of red on her cheeks for realizing she'd picked up on so many questions so quickly.
A general feeling of awkwardness would persist and even grow along with a general feeling of amusement as the lesbian bit is explained, but then as the questions keep getting answered and the topic strays to more serious things, Winter seems to calm, beginning to enjoy her flight again and get a little used to the company. ...haha, I'm... I'm sorry, I didn't even realize you'd picked up on everything, I didn't mean to mentally flood you there. ...I haven't used cyber elves at all due to how they are, so this is sort of a new experience to me.
The sight of the earth below becomes quite pretty as Winter shoots above cloud level, using tailwind from the jet stream to push her along so she relies on her thrusters less. ...anyways, I'm a Maverick Hunter. My name is Winter, model number RAE-021... we're probably going to be going to base from here unless I get another objective that redirects me, but if I get another mission I'll at least get sent to rest up first, so... we probably won't have any issues for now, at least. Lemme radio them.
An odd sensation would hit Ashni's and Winter's now-combined head as Winter touched the side of her helmet, radio transmissions going through. << HQ, this is Snowflake, come in. >>
<< We read you, Winter. There was a detonation in your deployment site, is everything okay? >> A female voice, alto, some sort of navigator.
<< With me, yeah. Arc Angels were there, had an engagement for a little bit until the blast occurred. Not quite certain what triggered it but there could have been allies around that incited it. >> Winter replied. << I'm okay, just en route unless there was anything else for me. Picked up a special-model Cyber Elf as well who wanted to tag along. >>
<< Alright then... >> The voice replied, and after a delay, << I'm actually receiving directive to send you to Berlin for now; considering you're already knowledgable about what's going on, we'll have you continue to look into it. Do you need anything? >>
<< Yeah, just something to fix light damages and a night's sleep, >> Winter replied with a smile.
<< Alright. We'll set up arrangements for you to rest somewhere and patch up. Head to Berlin for now, and await further orders. We'll send you location of a hotel for you once arrangements have been made. >>
<< Roger. Out. >> Winter replied, as the radio talking cut. "...well, guess that settles that..."

Ashni was deathly quiet during the conversation, ever since Winter had first mentioned that she was with the Hunters. The prior mention of Ciel should have clued her in on that fact already, but Ashni and the others had known little of the outside world. They knew survival and subsistence, and both would have prescribed the absolute avoidance of a group that held the kind of power and resources the Maverick Hunters possessed. Yet, such a concern barely mattered to her now. At this point, few things did.
They certainly keep you busy, must be quite the lifestyle. She spoke at last to Winter. Berlin, huh? Sounds like a nice place. Think I'll just get settled in and take a little nap then. Let me know when we get there, and... Ashni stopped; a certain amount of discomfort in her 'voice'.
...Thank you, for everything. She quickly and impassively expressed her gratitude. It was immediately followed by the kind of silence most spent their entire lives experiencing, and even fewer ever questioned. She was still a part of Winter, but it was as if that part of her had simply gone to sleep.

Noticing the awkward tone, a gentle discomfort also befell Winter. She didn't like Ashni getting upset like that suddenly, wondering why. It was going to be okay.
"Alright then," Winter spoke, night descending upon the area as her destination began to appear in sight, before her. The thanks, though, gives her a gentle feeling of warmth even despite how unconfortable it was. "You're welcome. Sweet dreams," she spoke gently, even if Ashni had already shut down, diving into the clouds with a graceful tumble into descent.

The outskirts of London lay in rubble. Most of the flames had been blown out from the force of the explosions, however a few broken gas lines and other small patches still flickered red hot. Ground zero, where the battle had taken place only a few hours earlier was now an unrecognizable smoking pile of rubble. Aside from the occasional gust of wind, all was strangly quiet.
Suddenly the smoke began twisting in odd fashions as a beam of teleportation energy zoomed in, striking the ground and transforming into a winged humanoid. Seconds later three more streams of energy appeared landing behind the first as three more figures appeared. Two were clad in identical black cloaks hiding all other features making them indistinguishable from one another. The third was human but was clearly heavily cyberized.
The winged angelic like reploid began walking forward, the others following immediately in step behind, looking from side to side clearly searching for something. After a moment he stopped.
"Zohar, over there," The angelic reploid said pointing at a ruble pile. His voice was neither deep nor threatening, but like his features was the type that would, as some would say, make women swoon.
Nodding and cracking his knuckles, the cyberized human approached the ruble pile lifting his hands in it's direction. A high pitched sound began emanating from his out stretched hands as the air became visibly distorted by theses sound waves. Chunks of rubble the size of human beings and larger began exploding, shattering into pebbles. For several seconds this continued until there was nothing left of the rubble pile but a pile of gravel and a small energy dome.
Turning off his sound wave generators, Zohar approached the dome tapping on it lightly.
"Hello, 'Sis', you awake in there," he said, his voice having a strange metallic hum undertone.
These words snapped Sierra out of her dreamlike daze as she looked around suddenly realizing she was no longer buried.
"Zohar? Ah, Lord Arc Angel," Sierra said in surprise deactivating her shield and kneeling before the angelic figure. "For give me my Lord. I'm afraid we were unable to complete our mission. The data was faulty, it was not Zero we were..."
"Yes, I know," Arc Angel said offering his hand to the kneeling woman and helping her back to her feet. "I was fully aware that the man you were after was not Zero."
Sierra paused in silent confusion, "But if you knew that, why did we... why were we sent here."
Arc Angel shrugged as he walked a circular path around his generals, "The other day I woke up and thought to myself: Should I blow up London, or New York? So I flipped a coin, it came up heads. So London it was. I must say though, I wasn't actually expecting you to use the big bombs. Bravo I do approve."
Sierra paused again, "Then why..."
"Why make up this entire ruse about going after Zero?" Arc Angel smiled. "If the enemy believes you are going after one target they will protect it with all they have leaving themselves exposed else where. Which is why deceiving your group was necessary as well. If you truly believed you were after Zero, then so would those whom heard your speak of it. Now then enough of that, find Spara. We have business to attend to, there is a reason I chose this particular location for the ambush after all."
"Yes my lord," Sierra said activating her helmet's scanners.
Even with the helmet's scanners it took several minutes before she located the hole Spara had fallen down.
"Here my lord," Sierra said walking up to the edge of the said hole. "It would appear he cut his way down from here. I'm scanning several cuts several levels down, and...something else. My scanners can't penetrate it, but it looks like his trail heads in it's direction."
"Very good," Arc Angel said patting Sierra on the shoulder gently. "Alpha, Omega you two take point. The rest of us will follow."
Nodding silently, the twin reploids lept down the hole. A moment later the three remaining figures followed.

"That way," Sierra said pointing down another hole cut into the underground.
Again the two black cloaked figures went first followed by the rest of the group.
"Hum, didn't realize there were so many sub levels to these sewers," Zohar said as he landed.
"Cities get built, destroyed, and then built on top of," Sierra responded as she scanned the area again. "Places as old as this city have entire lost underground civilizations."
Arc Angel smiled, "Indeed, they do don't they. You'd be amazed what can find down here. In fact, if we keep going this way, it's possible Spara may have already found what I have been looking for."
The two humans glanced at each other but didn't say anything.
Omega continued forward turning a corner and stopping as a large metal door now blocked his path. Taking a few steps forward, the door suddenly sprang open as a massive anthro lept out with it's beam weapon ready to strike. Omega, slid one foot twisting his body to the side avoiding the attack while grabbing the massive anthro's arm, giving it a tug and effortlessly sending it flying into a nearby wall.
Spara, grunted rubbing his head, "Ga, damn that hurt. Thought you might be one of those bastards I was fighting earlier taking refuse down here as well."
"Still too impulsive. You need to assess the situation more carefully before acting." Arc Angel said rounding the corner, "You should be thankful Omega knew it was you. Otherwise there wouldn't have been enough of you left to be having this conversation."
"Ah, Lord Arc Angel," Spara said righting himself a kneeling. "Did...did you come all the way here to find me?"
"In part," The angelic figure said walking past the kneeling anthro, "though mainly I came here to find this."
"The area was heavily re-enforced so I figured it would survive any tunnel collapse." Spara said looking at the doorway. "But their is another door inside that I couldn't force open."
"Then allow me," Arc Angel stated simply approaching the interior door.
There were clear signs on the interior door of Spara's unsuccessful attempt to cut it open with his blades. Arc Angel however ignored these. Lifting his arms, the air around the reploid's hands began to pulsing with energy. Thrusting his hands forward, the energy appeared to dissipate as the interior doors exploded in the same direction as the thrusting. Some of the door simply fell to the ground, other pieces flew though the air until they embedded themselves in the far wall nearly fifty feet away.
"Now then, Alpha, Omega you know what to do," Arc Angel said stepping into the room followed the by rest of the party.
Spara looked around in confusion, "What the heck is this place?"
"It's an old lab," Zohar responded. "It pre-dates even the Cataclysm. The records from Arc Angel's sources indicated it once belonged to a man named Dr. Wily."
"Who's that," Spara asked questioningly.
"You need to study your history my big brainless brother," Zohar said smiling as Spara growled back and made a mock 'head crushing' motion with his hands. "Dr. Wily was one of two scientists responsible for the original creation of you reploids. In fact one could almost say he was your great grandfather in a way. He and Dr. Light were responsible for many technical break throughs that are believed to rival even to days technology, but were lost during the Cataclysm." He paused looking around the room hungrily. "In short, this place is a gold mine of lost technology."
Alpha made his way to what appeared to be an inactive computer. Plugging in a portable power source, he activated the system and began downloading it's contents into a miniature hard drive.
Sierra walked up behind him reading off some of the data as it appeared on screen. "Bombman. Diveman. Gutsman. Vacumman? Woodman? Seriously, he had to be running out of ideas for names or something," Alpha paused turning to look at her. "Alright, alright." She turned and walked away as the reploid returned to his work. "Do you seriously think these ancient robots would be of any use to us?"
"No," Arc Angel stated simply as he stared at a large degraded picture hanging from one of the walls. "They are too out of data to be of interest. However, consider this. All reploids, even the mighty X and Zero are biased upon these robots. Unlocking their secrets will only serve to help unlock our own."
My lord, I found him., the harsh sounding voice of Omega echoed through the minds of those within the room.
Arc angel and Zohar left the main room following the "voice" to another. In this room, there were clear signs a battle had once taken place as the walls and ceiling were covered in scorch marks from blasters and sabers. Near the edge of the room Omega stood over another figure with a large energy saber wound across his chest.
"Ah, there he is." Arc Angel said looking down at the robot at his feet. "It is good to finally met you, Bass."
"Bring him with us," Arc Angel said turning and leaving the room. "He'll need a bit of remodeling before he can be reactivated, but he will be a fine addition to our team once his upgrades are complete."
I am finished my lord, Alpha's somewhat gentle voice echoed in their heads.
"Good, wait for us outside." Arc Angel said then turned to face Zohar. "Destroy it all."
Zohar hesitated a moment before speaking, "But sir, there so much more here we could discover. Destroying it would be such a waist. Wouldn't it be better to..."
Arc Angel walked up beside Zohar with a dangerous look in his eyes, "We have what we came for. The rest is unimportant. Destroy it all so no one else may have it."
Zohar swallowed hard. He knew better than to argue when his master had that look in his eye. "Yes my lord."
Arc Angel left the room followed closely by Omega who now carried the deactivated robot in his arms. Zohar, lifted his hands sending deadly sound waves in every direction destroying anything within it's range down to the last microchip. Again and again he repeated this process from room to room until he was back at the entrance. Outside the lab, he activated the sound waves once more sending a shock wave through the ground, collapsing the roof of the building and barring the lab in a pile of rubble.
"Very good," Arc Angel said with a smile as he looked at his generals. "Now then, let us return home. We have much work to get done."
