Name: Alter
Race: Copy Reploid
Allegiance: Yoron Resistance
Age: apparently 47, actually 196
Physical Description: Since the destruction of Giga City, Alter's physical appearance has undergone some changes. While previously he had the appearance of a human in his early 30s, Alter's hair and face have both aged by about fifteen years - grey hairs have begun to vie with black, some dropping out of the struggle entirely, and the deepening lines in his face betray Alter's recent disregard for the maintenance of his appearance. The purplish bruises forming under his eyes from overuse of his primary optics don't help to change the impression that he is a Reploid heading for the scrap heap.
His torso and upper limbs are covered by a featureless grey bodysuit, with his shins and forearms encased in dull black armor. Following his experiences in Giga City, he threw away his business suits and black capes and returned to his simple white lab coat. The reclusive genius is rarely, if ever, seen outside his gadgetry workshop deep in the bowels of the Yoron complex.
Stats: Having willingly descended into the underworld, Alter has become a mere shade of his former self. Comparing his present condition to the peak of his power on the surface reveals just how far he has fallen - in body and spirit.
Strength: 4
Dexterity: 9 (14 for manual dexterity, 4 for speed)
Accuracy: 4
Aim: 4
Constitution: 6
Intelligence: 17
Charisma: 6
Appearance: 6
Fear: 4 (no anti-fear)
Weaknesses: Formerly, Alter was capable of charming serpents and raising armies from nothing with the force of his words. Unfortunately, in his self-imposed exile, he has not spoken more than a few words to anyone in years, and his conversation skills have declined accordingly.
Though merely a mediocre combatant in his previous life, with neither great aptitudes nor great flaws, his combat skills have degenerated to near nonexistence, and as such he is more or less completely helpless.
As might be expected of a mere techie, Alter has not made use of the stored DNA signatures in his Copy library since the events of Giga City - assuming, of course, that he retains the ability to use them. It is possible, though, that he simply refuses to do so for reasons of his own.
Strengths: For all his many flaws, it is undeniable that Alter's mind remains one of the most powerful in the world. His skills in Reploid engineering, computer programming, and industrial science have not had a chance to degenerate as his other attributes, thanks to the constant stream of difficult work orders that flow into his workshop.
The catch? Alter will, in virtually all cases, refuse to work on certain types of project, particularly those of an offensive or destructive nature. This obstinacy has caused the Resistance command some consternation in the past, but generally they choose not to press the issue for fear of provoking him into closing up shop completely.
Alter's latest project, the aim of which is unknown to all but the highest echelons of the Resistance command, is to develop a new breed of combat drone AI to be installed in an upcoming counter-unit intended to surpass the Neo Arcadian Pantheon Drones. Though his role in the Pantheon Project ended decades ago, Alter's intimate knowledge of their inner workings gives him a unique insight into their strengths and weaknesses, and a strong motivation to right his ancient wrong.
History: Alter's story goes back so much further than those of most other Reploids that his earliest origins are unknown to everyone but himself. In truth, Alter was built in a factory whose chip fabs had been infected with the Maverick Virus, and, though free of viral contamination, he was forced to murder a Maverick Hunter and a dozen of his batch mates just to escape his birthplace.
Those in the know are aware that the good doctor was in the employ of the Maverick Hunters as a virus researcher in the decades preceding the Neo Arcadia disaster, and subsequently joined Copy X's circle of cronies. It is rumored that in the years building up to the destruction of the Hunters, Alter played a part in the development of the infamous Pantheon Drones. What no one but the Neo Arcadian command knows is that Alter played a part in the destruction of Maverick Hunter HQ. What no one but Alter knows is that he freely murdered his best and closest student while carrying out his orders to destroy the equipment and data centers in the Hunter labs.
Alter became an engineer in the employ of Neo Arcadia after the annihilation of the Hunters, and enjoyed a stable career for some time thereafter. During the Giga City incident, Alter attempted to stage a coup and seize control of the island for himself, with the help of a few companions and a hijacked unit of Neo Arcadian soldiers, but his attempt was detected and he was branded a traitor. When it became clear that the island was in danger of imminent destruction via core meltdown, Alter met up with the Resistance team that had deployed to the island and assisted them in evacuating the last survivors to Yoron base. Unfortunately, the evacuation effort cost Strike Caine, the commander of the Hunter remnants, his life. Alter blames himself for Caine's demise, and the crushing weight of all his sins has finally come crashing down on his mind, obliterating his former ambitions.
After arriving on Yoron, Alter descended into the research and development department, and secured a workshop for himself. Since then, he has been seen rarely, but the output of his shop is considered to be second to none - despite the fact that he never signs his work with any identifying markers. Curiously, though he has created many advanced armor parts, scanning suites, power cores, shield generators, and other miscellaneous pieces of high-tech equipment, his production log indicates that he has never even begun development of any kind of offensive weapon.
